Summary The amendments in the constitution and the Army Act were earlier approved on Tuesday
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday has tweeted his response about the recently approved amendments in the Army Act and the 21st Amendment. He expressed his displeasure over the approval of the bills looking at it as a disgrace.
The amendments in the constitution and the Army Act were earlier approved on Tuesday 6th January 2015 giving constitutional cover for the establishment of military courts. The government has formulated such amendments, trying to come up with effective methods to fight terrorism. The amendments were received with some skepticism by major political parties like Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F). The government went at lengths to curb these doubts forming joint legal teams with both JUI-F and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari posted his disapproval for the Amendments on the social networking website Twitter. His tweet expressed that the government’s response of such amendments in the face of terrorism was self destructive, needless and that the Parliament had apparently ‘cut its nose’ by approving the mendments.
Senator Raza Rabbani and Aitzaz Ahsan have also shown their displeasure for the amendments. Raza Rabbani expressed how difficult it was for him to vote in favor of the bills during the session of the Senate.
PPP’s co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari decided to support the bills just so these could be approved without opposition as PPP holds a majority in the senate.
