Summary Electricity production goes down to 9000 megawatts as Tarbela Dam is only producing 540 megawatts.
A further drop in electricity production was recorded due to the non availability of gas and furnace oil. According to sources, the water level in Tarbela Dam is at 1,378 feet as the usable water storage in the dam finished. Due to the low water levels, eight of the 14 power generating units have been closed. The power being generated from the six power units is a mere 540 megawatts. The arrival of water at the dam is 20,700 cusecs and the emission of water is 30,000 cusecs. On the other hand, due to the non availability of gas and furnace oil the electricity power plants have been closed. As a result, the thermal electricity production is now at 1,877 megawatts. The electricity production from the Independent Power Plants (IPP) has also decreased. The IPPs are now producing 4,852 megawatts compared to their 7,039 megawatts, which they were producing earlier. The Hydro power generation has also dropped from 6,555 megawatts to 3,051 megawatts. Collectively, 9,000 megawatts is being produced out of a possible 18,000 megawatts.
