Summary Pakistan is facing a number of challenges at the time, says the Prime Minister
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has chaired a meeting of federal ministers to discuss course of investigations pertaining to Panama leaks, Dunya News reported Thursday.
Sources privy to the government stated that the high-level meeting convened in the federal capital is discussing possibility of Chief Justice of Pakistan, Anwar Zaheer Jamali-led commission’s establishment to probe the leaks of Panama-based law firm that tangled Sharif family.
The meeting is also reviewing current political setting in the country. While addressing the participants, Prime Minister said that the government took steps to better performance of different institutions.
He asserted that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government’s policies would steer the country towards prosperity and restoration of peace.
Pakistan is facing a number of challenges at the time, he added.
PM Nawaz said that the government is following an efficient policy to counter energy crisis while policies regarding economic growth have also been fruitful.
Country’s political leadership has adopted zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and extremist outfits, he added. The Prime Minister further said that Operation Zarb-e-Azb crippled terrorists’ network and hold in tribal areas.
Earlier this month, Panama Papers had published leaked documents from a law firm revealing offshore companies and tax havens used by at least 140 world leaders including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family.
Prime Minister paid a visit to London citing medical checkup the reason behind however, the opposition parties including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Isnaf (PTI) alleged the government of trying to cover up its corruption.
On the other hand, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar held judges’ excuses and opposition’s statements reasons for delayed accountability in the issue.
However, PTI leader Imran Khan is adamant on formation of a CJP-led commission to probe the leaks and alleged corruption against Prime Minister’s family. He has warned of staging a sit-in in Lahore’s Jati Umra if the government does not hold impartial probe.
