ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Railways and leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Khawaja Saad Rafique on Thursday has challenged the election tribunal’s (ET s) verdict of NA-125 in Supreme Court (SC), Dunya News reported.

As per details, a petition was filed in SC by the counsel of Saad Rafique stating that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was unable to prove all the allegations leveled against federal minister.

He said that election tribunal has annulled the election just because of election irregularities. He further claimed that ET has not accused anybody of rigging which means that Saad Rafique was not involved in organized rigging.

Moreover, the petitioner demanded to void the ET’s decision of re-election in NA-125.

Earlier, election tribunal disqualified Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique after irregularities were confirmed in NA-125 polls that were held in the constituency in the May 2013 general elections.

In its verdict, the tribunal declared NA-125 results null and void and ordered for conduct of re-polls in the constituency within next sixty days.

It may be mentioned here that PTI candidate Hamid Khan had challenged the victory of PML-N’s Saad Rafiq alleging that he rigged NA-125 polls.

Saad Rafique can now approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the decision.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has stated that schedule of by-election on the seat will be announced after notification regarding Saad Rafique`s disqualification is issued.

Polling would take place within two months, the ECP added.
