ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam on Thursday confirmed that Saudi Arabia has sought Pakistan’s assistance to overcome ongoing crisis in Yemen.
During a weekly press briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, Tasnim Aslam said the Saudi request to become part of its coalition against Yemeni rebels is currently being examined.
She said Pakistani community in Yemen has been alerted in view of the current situation there. No decision, however, has so far been taken to shut down the embassy. The mission has been asked to remain alert for evacuation of Pakistani community in case the situation further deteriorates.
Saudi Arabia and four other Gulf states, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, announced earlier a decision to "answer the call of President Hadi to protect Yemen and his people from the aggression of the Houthi militia."
The kingdom`s ambassador to the United States announced from Washington that a coalition of 10 countries, including the five Gulf monarchies, had been set up to protect the Yemeni government.
Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya news channel said that Egypt and Pakistan would dispatch jet fighters and warships to take part in the campaign.
When asked about the registration of case by India against Hurriyat leader Asiya Andrabi for singing Pakistani national song, the FO spokesperson said the Kashmiri people have a special love for Pakistan. The registration of case against the Hurriyat leader reinforces that the people in Occupied Kashmir are being subjected to suppression and denied the right to express their views and sentiments.
She said Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory. Future of the territory is to be decided by the people of Jammu and Kashmir through exercise of free and fair plebiscite as guaranteed by the UN Security Council resolutions.
On the Samjhota train attack case, the spokesperson said the bereaved Pakistani families still await justice despite lapse of so many years.
To a question, Tasnim Aslam said the Chinese president will visit Pakistan. The dates of the visit will be announced simultaneously in Beijing and Islamabad.
