KARACHI (Dunya News) – Inspector General (IG) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali on Tuesday claimed that the target killing has dropped to zero in Karachi, adding that the cases of extortion have also been curbed to “a large extent”, Dunya News reported.

He said the cases of kidnapping in interior Sindh have also reduced.

A ceremony was held at Central Police Office Karachi to distribute compensation among the families of the police martyrs. The IG Sindh distributed cheques of Rs 20 lakh each to the families. He said that the families of slain policemen are being given employments and plots.

Jamali said that Sindh police personnel will get salaries equal to that of Punjab police personnel from 31st March. He thanked the Sindh government and Bahria Town administration for providing the plots to the families of the slain personnel.

IG Sindh said that the matter of extortion has been curbed to a ‘great extent’, adding that target killing has dropped to zero in Karachi.

He said that the investigation regarding raid on Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) center is ongoing.

Meanwhile, IG Sindh’s claims of reduced extortion proved false as shop-owners protested against extortion at M.A. Jinnah Road. Trade leaders accused the police of being involved in the extortion.
