Senate polls results: PML-N clean-sweeps in Punjab, Islamabad

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The unofficial results of the much-hyped Senate elections have started coming in. The ruling party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has clean-swept Senate elections in Punjab by securing all eleven seats from Punjab Assembly and in federation by securing both two seats, Dunya News reported.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) secured five seats while Muttahida Qaumi Movement managed two in Sindh Assembly. PML-N, Pashtunkhwa MAP and National Party obtained three seats each in Balochistan Assembly.

Punjab Results (unofficial)

According to details, Raja Zafar Ul Haq and Professor Sajid Mir were successful on technocrat seats, while Najma Hameed and Ayesha Raza succeeded on seats reserved for women.

On seven general seats, PML-N’s Mushahid Ullah Khan, Pervaiz Rasheed, Nihal Hashmi, Lt. General (retd) Abdul Quyyum, Chaudhry Tanveer, Saleem Zia and Ghous Khan Niazi were elected as senators.

Islamabad Results (unofficial)

PML-N claimed both seats in Islamabad; with their candidates Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Raheela Magsi securing 211 and 205 votes respectively.

Sindh Results (unofficial)

Out of seven general seats from the Sindh Assembly, PPP secured five seats while MQM secured two. PPP’s successful candidates are: former Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, former state minister Salim Mandviwalla, former state minister Islamuddin Shaikh, former minister Engineer Gayan Chand and Abdul Latif Ansari while MQM’s winning candidates are Khushbakht Shujaat and Mian Muhammad Atiq.

PPP and MQM already have two candidates each elected unopposed on four seats of technocrats and women.

Balochistan Results (unofficial)

Out of 12 seats in Balochistan, Pashtunkhwa MAP, PML-N and National Party secured three seats each whereas JUI-F and BNP Mengal secured one seat each.

From Balochistan general seats, NP’s Mir Hasil Bezenjo, PMAP’s Muhammad Usman Kakarr, Azam Musakhel and JUI-F’s Maulana Abdul Ghaffor were successful.

PML-N’s Nematullah Zahri, BNP Mengal’s Dr Jehanzaib Jamaluddin and independent candidate Yousaf Badini were also successful.
On two technocrat seats, NP’s Kabir Muhammad Shehi and PML-N’s Agha Shahbaz Durrani were successful.
From two reserved seats for women, PMAP’s Gul Bushra and PML-N’s Kulsoom Parveen were successful.

Upset for PML-N

A major upset for PML-N was the defeat of Sardar Yaqub Nasir who only got six votes and lost to an independent candidate Yousaf Badini, much to everyone’s surprise.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Assembly Speaker Jan Muhammad Jamali’s daughter also faced defeat.
