Senate elections: ECP stretches polling time in KP Assembly

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – The polling time in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly for Senate election on Thursday has been stretched to 8:00pm at night due to interruptions in the process as the political parties blamed one another of violation of election rules.

The KP Chief Minister (CM) recommended the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to postpone Senate elections in the province however, the polling time has been stretched until 9:00pm at night. As many as 25 candidates are to contest for at least seven general seats, two women, a minority and at least two technocrat seats.

After the polling started, the parties blamed one another for violating election rules. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Nighat Orakzai blamed Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) candidate to have stolen ballots. While talking to the media, she challenged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan for a dialogue. Talks were held between CM KP and the opposition to resolve the matter but no progress was seen.

PPP Raja Pervez Ashraf complained the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) about the situation upon which he took notice of the situation.
