Summary Court directed the accused to submit surety bonds worth Rs50,000 each.

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Monday accepted bail of 103 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and ordered authorities to release them, Dunya News reported.

The PTI activists were accused of attacking Parliament House and other government installations on August 30. They were booked under Section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

ATC Judge Attiqur Rehman heard the case.

During case proceedings, defence lawyer Naeem Gujjar told court that neither identity parade of the suspects was carried out nor the police recovered any weapon from their possession.

After conclusion of arguments, the court ordered release of 103 accused and directed them to submit surety bonds worth Rs50,000 each.

On the other hand, a Judicial Magistrate in Lahore also accepted bail of at least 34 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists who were earlier sent to jail on judicial remand.

During case proceedings, PTI lawyer Gohar Sindhu argued that police registered case against party workers as an ‘act of revenge’ to stop them from a peaceful protest.

He prayed to court that all the sections in the First Information Report (F.I.R) are bailable.

Meanwhile, Judicial Magistrate Imtiaz Noor accepted bail of 34 workers and directed them to submit Rs50,000 surety bonds.

PTI chief Imran Khan and Dr Tahir Ul Qadri have gathered thousands of supporters in Islamabad since August 14 calling on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to resign over what they claim was massive rigging of the 2013 election.

The arrests prompted Imran Khan s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) party to cancel talks aimed at ending the crisis.

Tahir-ul-Qadri, chief of his own Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) party also announced he had suspended negotiations alleging that 12 of his personal guards were also arrested.

Several rounds of talks have been held between the government, opposition groups and the two protesting parties to find a solution to the crisis.
