Malnutrition claims four more lives in Tharparkar

Summary The death toll in the area has reached 202 during last three months.

THARPARKAR (Dunya News) – At least two children died of malnutrition in Islamkot area and another died at Civil Hospital in Mithi on Wednesday. A woman also died in the same hospital.

The death toll in the area during last three months reached 202 and majority of the victims were children. The residents continue to migrate from different areas of Tharparkar.

Meanwhile, a relief operation judge has taken notice of complaints of misappropriation during distribution of wheat in Amu village.

On the other hand, no elected representative was present in the session of Sindh Assembly that was called to discuss the issue of drought in the area.

The United Nations (UN) has said that more funds are urgently required to tackle the nutrition crisis in the drought-affected Tharparkar region.

This has been said in a statement by United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan, Timo Pakkala.

He said there were vreports of a rise in number of malnutrition, clinical admissions and child mortality in Tharparkar.

Coordinator to Sindh Chief Minister Taj Haider said over one hundred thousand wheat bags have been distributed in drought-hit areas.

In a statement, he said over fifty five thousand patients including children have also been provided medical treatment.
