ISLAMABAD (Dunya News): Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif returned to Islamabad on Friday evening after a four-day official visit to the United States.
PM was received at the airport by Federal Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Political Advisor to the Prime Minister, Dr Asif Kirmani, and senior officials.
During his stay in Washington, Nawaz called on the US President Barrack Obama and discussed with him issues that pertained to Pakistan’s sovereignty and respect.
During the wide-ranging White House discussions, the two leaders agreed to bolster bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
The Prime Minister discussed with the US President economic and energy cooperation, education, extremism issue affecting Pakistan and Afghanistan, Pakistan-India relations and the Kashmir dispute, the drone issue and the matter of jailed Pakistani scientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
The US side was also informed about the policy of holding dialogue with the Taliban as decided with consensus by the All Parties Conference.
The US Vice President Joseph Biden hosted a breakfast meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at his residence, in which he reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties for a strong, democratic and prosperous Pakistan.
After the Prime Minister’s visit the US, Pakistan will be engaged in a range of initiatives in the coming months to help bolster cooperation in trade, investment and energy sectors.
The US Finance Secretary Jack Lew hosted dinner for the prime ministerial delegation, which was attended by secretaries of energy, US trade representative, USAID chief and president of Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
The World Bank President, Dr Jim Yong Kim and US Foreign Secretary John Kerry called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif separately and discussed with him bilateral issues.
Earlier, Prime Minister while talking to reporters in London on Thursday, soon after his arrival from the US, expressed the hope that following his meeting with President Barrack Obama, the issue of violation of Pakistan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty by drone strikes would be resolved soon.
PM Nawaz Sharif further said that Pakistan has an independent foreign policy and the country s sovereignty would be protected at all cost.
