Summary Tremors created panic among people; however, no loss of life or property was reported.

SWAT (Online): An earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale hit parts of northwestern and northern Pakistan on Wednesday, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said.

Tremors were felt in Swat, Malakand, Bunair, Dir, Shangla, Chitral and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the meteorological department, the epicenter of the quake that was measured 3.1 at Richter scale, while its epicenter was some 40 Km in northeast of Mingora city, main town of Swat.

The tremors created panic among the people , however, no loss of life or property was reported from any area yet.

Pakistan is among the most earthquake-prone regions of the world with high vulnerability to earthquakes. In Oct. 2005, a high intensity quake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale jolted parts of Pakistan, causing large scale destruction and killing over 80,000 people besides leaving millions others homeless.
