Summary The motive behind the rocket attack is still unclear.
QUETTA (Web Desk) – At least one person was killed and 12 others injured as a rocket fired from unknown location hit a Rawalpindi bound train near Bolan.
According to officials, rocket was fired at the Jaffar Express while it was passing through the mountainous region near Kolpur in Bolan district.
Railway official Kashif Khan said the attack happened near the village of Dozan as the train was heading to the town of Sibi in Balochistan province.
Dozan village is about 30 miles east of Quetta, the capital of the impoverished province.
The rocket also damaged engine of the train.
Meanwhile, security forces cordoned off the area and launched search operation in the area to arrest the culprits.
Pakistan is battling a homegrown insurgency and faces near-daily bombings and shootings in the troubled northwest, but attacks on the railway have esclated recently.
On August 5, a bomb exploded on the Shalimar Express train near the town of Toba Tek Singh in Punjab province, killing a toddler and wounding 13 others.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, however, Railways Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique indicated that owners of Shalimar Express had been receiving threats from the extortion mafia.
Also, a bomb near the waiting lounge for the luxury Lahore-Karachi Business Express train last year killed two people.
