Maulana Fazlur Rehman urges Pakistan and Afghanistan to exercise restraint, backs Pakistan’s security concerns, calls for ceasefire, diplomacy, and regional peace efforts to ease tensions.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has expressed deep concern over rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, urging both countries to immediately observe a ceasefire and exercise restraint.
In his statement, he said that Pakistan’s security-related complaints with Afghanistan are legitimate. However, he emphasized that Afghanistan’s sovereignty and its internal matters must also be respected. He warned that emotional reactions are adding further complications for both countries.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman proposed that the issue should be resolved through bilateral interests, a credible security framework, and internationally recognized norms. He stressed that diplomatic efforts are the only sustainable path to a lasting solution, cautioning that unilateral military actions could aggravate the situation.
The JUI-F chief also expressed hope that countries seeking peace in the region would play a constructive diplomatic role to help reduce tensions and promote stability.
