Summary Thousands of Mexicans protested against Mexican President Felipe Calderon's war on drug cartels.
Demonstrators marched in cities across Mexico, holding signs condemning the wave of killing that have claimed more than 37,000 lives since Calderon took office in December 2006. Smaller protests were held as far afield as New York and Barcelona.In Mexico City, protesters held signs saying No more murders as they filed into the citys central plaza. Demonstrators also marched through the northern business capital of Monterrey, though the impetus for the national surge came from the weekend getaway city of Cuernavaca.
