Summary Filipino activists held a rally in front of the Japanese Embassy, to express sympathy with Japan.
They offered a short prayer for those killed by the 9.0 magnitude quake and tsunami that flattened coastal towns in northeast Japan. More than 9,500 have already been confirmed dead, and around 16,000 are still missing, Japans police agency said. Meanwhile, workers at a nuclear power plant are battling to stabilise overheating reactors that have leaked high levels of radiation. Three workers at the quake-stricken plant in northern Japan have been hurt by radiation and two of them have been sent to hospital for treatment, the countrys nuclear safety agency said on Thursday. The sympathisers likened Japans catastrophe to the typhoons, floods and landslides that frequently hit the Philippines, leaving hundreds dead and thousands homeless.
