Updated on

Summary The US has decided to mediate among Pakistan, India and Afghanistan to solve their water disputes. And dialogues between Pakistan and India for joint water management would be held during the current year.

US Senate report “Avoiding water wars in South and Central Asia” was released on February 22 by Senator John Kerry, Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee. According to the report, in Central and South Asia, particularly in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the impacts of water scarcity are fueling dangerous tensions that will have repercussions for regional stability and US foreign policy objectives. The report recommends that the United States should also invest in institutions that support developing transboundary water sharing agreements.
