Summary Due to massive decrease in temperature in Poland, death toll has reached more than 200 during the ongoing winter season.
As many as 30 people killed in severe frost in February alone, bringing the total death toll to above 200. In Warsaw people braved the cold to walk next to the Wisla river as lily pads of ice clogged the icy waters. The homeless have been the worst affected. Bins with glowing coal, provided by the city council have appeared in the streets of Warsaw for people to warm themselves up while waiting at bus stops in an effort to keep people warm.Transport networks have also been struck by the freeze. Near Torun, 200 kilometers north of Warsaw, railways buckled in the extreme conditions prompting emergency maintenance and delays.
