Summary PM Gilani has directed expediting setting up of Centre for Liver Transplant at PIMS.

To this effect, a delegation of Royal Free Hospital, London and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Saturday discussed matters. The proposed centre at PIMS aims to provide best facilities of liver transplant at affordable costs.According to a press statement, a delegation of Royal Free Hospital, London called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at PM’s House on Saturday.The Prime Minister said that at present people have to go to foreign countries to have liver transplant and pay hefty costs.The Prime Minister said that the government is working on prevention, control and treatment of Hepatitis on a priority basis and has invested Rs 14 billion. He said the establishment of Centre for Liver Diseases and Liver Transplant at PIMS is a step forward towards the achievement of this objective.He said that Pakistani doctors have already undertaken Liver Transplant Surgery at Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore successfully and the government intend to set up full-fledged facility of liver transplant in Islamabad as well.The Prime Minister directed the Capital Development and Development Division to take immediate steps for expediting the setting up of Centre for Liver Transplant at PIMS.The secretary Capital Administration and Development Division apprised the meeting that at the moment treatment of liver is underway at PIMS Hospital providing indoor and outdoor treatment including provision of drugs and minor surgeries.He said that Hepatitis B and C patients are provided complete set of third generation Hepatitis drugs.Earlier, the head of the delegation of doctors assured the Prime Minister that the team is ready to help Pakistan in establishing the Liver Transplant Centre at PIMS. They expressed their satisfaction about the quality of equipment, the ongoing treatment facility for the liver disease and the civil work of the centre.
