Lahore High Court quashed the death sentence of Nadir, convicted for murdering a citizen at his fiancée's request. The court dismissed evidence and ordered his release, rejecting the death sentence.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) has quashed the death sentence of a convict, who was awarded the capital punishment by a trial court for allegedly murdering a man after being incited by his fiancée.
Justice Shahram Sarwar heard the appeal filed by the suspect, named Nadir, and ultimately ruled in favour of the accused, ordering his release.
Justice Sarwar questioned how the murder case had been initially filed against an unknown assailant, later naming the defendant as the accused.
The defense lawyer argued that key evidence, such as the recovery of a pistol and a motorcycle from Nadir, and the Call Detail Record linking him to the crime, suggested his involvement. The prosecutor urged the court to reject the appeal and uphold the death sentence.
However, the court dismissed the prosecutor’s arguments and rejected the death sentence.
Nadir had been convicted of murder in Kasur and sentenced to death by a lower court.
