Summary Finland has shut its consulate in Islamabad due to operational reasons.
Sources told Dunya News the consulate has been closed as the Finnish government had to spend a lot of money for its operational cost. Sources said the consulate was not in the red zone which has foreign embassies and high commission. Instead, the Finnish consulate was housed in G6/3, which multiplied security and operational costs.Sources said the Finnish government had opened the consulate after assurance that Pakistan would have its embassy in Finland on a reciprocal basis. However, Pakistan’s embassy in Sweden continued to cover the Finnish cases, which partly resulted in the closure of consulate in Islamabad, sources added.
