Summary MQM on Monday submitted 20th amendment bill for new provinces.
The bill was submitted in the National Assembly Secretariat by Farooq Sattar and other MQM MPs.The bill calls for making Hazara a separate province while making up to two provinces in Southern Punjab. The bill suggests referendum in Southern Punjab on the point if there should be one or two provinces.The bill also calls for abolishing a sub-clause of Article 239 of the Constitution, while suggesting amends in Article 1.Talking to the media in Islamabad, Farooq Sattar said that the people would have to be given their due rights. He said the situation in Punjab calls for making new provinces. He said national consensus is required on the issue, therefore his party is approaching other parties.Online adds: Separately, the MQM filed two resolutions in Senate. The resolutions pertain to formation of Saraiki belt in Punjab and Hazara is Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa as separate provinces.The resolution stated that provinces should be made on the basis of districts or divisions and that their names be selected as per the opinion of the people.The MQM said that formation of new provinces is imperative.Babar Ghauri, Ahmed Ali, Tahir Mushhadi, Sheerala Malik, Haseeb Khan and Abdul Khaliq Pirzada signed the resolutions.
