Summary PPP leader Babar Awan has announced to file a review petition against ban on students unions.

Talking to media persons in the Supreme Court building, Dr Babar Awan said that his party would file a review plea over Supreme Court’s decision of 1993, banning students unions across the country. He said they hoped the apex Court would hold a review of the decision delivered by late Chief Justice of Pakistan Afzal Zullah on a case titled Ismail Qureshi vs Islami Jammiat Tulaba. The PPP leader hinted that the PPP could file a review after Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s reference.Babar said the decision was against right of association, freedom of expressions and due process and the late judge, however, had held in his verdict that the apex Court could hold review of the same decision. He opined that students unions were basic nurseries of democratic set up, which also helped him, Javed Hashmi and Afrasiab Khattak to enter into politics. To a question, he replied that due to a judicial order, an administrative order for restoration of students unions could not be passed.
