Summary Two-member bench of Supreme Court has reserved verdict in RPPs case after completion of arguments.
The two-member bench of Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the suo moto case of Rental Power Projects.The Chief Justice, in his remarks, said that the apex court has been hearing the RPPs case for last six months and now we have understood everything. The agreement was inked to pay Rs 5.5 billion as rent to Gulf Rental Plants in five years, he said. The CJ also said that there was expected to produce 500MW electricity from RPPs but only 230MW electricity could be produced.PML-N leader Khawaja Asif told the apex court that Rs 270 million has been paid to the RPPs but electricity worth Rs 137 million were provided so far.The counsel for the ministry of Water & Power, Khawaja Tariq Rahim, while concluding his arguments said that all terms and conditions were followed in Rental Power Projects and nothing was concealed. The court has reserved the verdict after completion of arguments.
