Summary The retired railway employees are facing difficulties despite the presence of Senior Citizens Act.

The National Assembly of Pakistan passed Senior Citizens Act in 2009 which was made immediately effective across the country.According to this law, people above 65 years were declared as the senior citizens and formation of a council was announced to facilitate them. The main aim of the council was to adopt the measures to provide physical, mental, social and economic welfare to the elderly people in the country but it seems that the government and the department concerned have ignored the senior citizens plight. The law was passed after a bill tabled by MNA Bushra Rehman but the old citizens continue to suffer and recent example of violation of this law is that the retired employees of Pakistan Railways are facing severe trouble as payments of their pensions are being delayed by the department.
