Finance Ministry agrees release funds for Railways

Summary Finance Ministry has assured Railways that required funds would be released at the earliest.

The assurance came after officials from the ministry and the Railways agreed to end the gap between the required and supplied funds. Federal Secretary Finance Waqar Masood was called upon by railways Chairman Javed Iqbal.The secretary was told that the federal cabinet had approved Rs 45 billion whereas the railways required Rs 60 billion. The Railways had demanded Rs 13 billion for pensions and Rs 18 billion for pays. However, the Finance Ministry released Rs 5 billion for pensions and Rs 14 billion for pays.The Railways chairman demanded that the Finance Ministry pay Railways subsidy of Rs 4 billion a month as agreed. He said that Rs 17 billion are required for pays, Rs 13 billion for pensions and Rs 15 billion for repair works on engines and trains.On the other hand, the Railways General Manger said in a talk with Dunya News that all rail employees and pensioners would be paid before Eid-ul-Azha.
