FO snubs Kabuls blames on Rabbani murder probe

Summary Islamabad has denied Kabuls allegation of non-cooperation in Rabbani murder probe.

The Foreign Office said Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had offered assistance to Afghanistan in investigating the killing of former Afghan president Burhanuddin Rabbani. FO spokesperson Tehmina Janjua said Pakistan still stand by its offer of cooperation.Afghanistan on Tuesday accused Pakistan of refusing to cooperate with investigations into the killing of Kabul government peace envoy Burhanuddin Rabbani.Today we received a message from the embassy of Pakistan saying that since this issue has arisen in media, we cannot cooperate and we apologise for that, said Mohammad Yasin Zia, deputy head of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) intelligence agency.He said Afghan investigators wanted to meet the head of Pakistan s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), General Shuja Pasha, but they didn t show any interest.Rabbani s killing in Kabul on September 20 has provided President Hamid Karzai with the opportunity to reconsider his strategy for talking peace with the Taliban. However, he has jumped on the bandwagon of anti-Pakistanism as a way to deflect domestic and international criticism of under-performing in the war on terror.
