Munter again meets Salman to defuse tension

The meeting took place at the Foreign Ministry in Islamabad. Both officials discussed Pak-US ties with a reference to the chill cast by anti-Pakistan rhetoric by US officials.Foreign Secretary Salman once again demanded the US take notice of attacks inside Pakistan from Afghanistan. He said on the occasion that attacks inside Pakistan from Afghanistan was a matter of serious concern. The US should take notice of these attacks. Pakistan wants close relations with the US, he added. However, blame game is no solution to the problems, he maintained. The US should ensure provision of credible evidence to Pakistan.Munter said that there was trust deficit between the US and Pakistan and his country did not want to see Pakistan unstable, as Washington wants good relations with Islamabad.In their first interaction yesterday, they underlined the need for both countries to pursue dialogues and deeper strategic links.Pakistan has warned the US against launching an offensive as it would be breach of its sovereignty and will carry far-reaching consequences.
