Plaza demolition: LHC orders case against LDA officials, policemen

Summary LHC ordered case against 10 LDA and police officials on demolishing the plaza in Johar Town.

Advocate Aftab Ahmad Bajwa, representing the petitioner, presented before the court and said an application for the registration of a case against the officials was filed with the police but it refused to take any action. He requested the court to order registration of a criminal case against the respondents.The counsel argued in the court that his client had strictly followed the LDA rules and no irregularity was committed during the construction of the building. But the authority demolished the building without issuing any prior notice due to which 4 people killed and 26 other received severe injuries.Justice Qasim Khan of Lahore High Court directed the SHO concerned to act in accordance with law on an application of the petitioner (plaza owner) and register a case against the 4 official of LDA including chief town planner Lahore. The court also ordered to register a case against DSP and SHO of Johar Town police station.
