Summary The US Senate panel approved $1 billion aid for Pakistan Counterinsurgency Capability Fund.
The US Senate Appropriations Committee approved $1 billion aid for Pakistan Counterinsurgency Capability Fund, $100 million below Obamas request. It conditioned aid on Pakistans cooperation against the Haqqani network, Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations, with some waivers. The foreign aid measure would either trim or impose limitations on U.S. aid to Pakistan, a reflection of the frustration among many lawmakers about an inconsistent ally in the U.S. confrontation with terrorists. The Senate Appropriations Committee approved the bill Wednesday on a 28-2 vote. The panel also took the unusual step of not specifying other assistance to Pakistan.
