Pakistan Army to send reinforcements along Afghan border

Summary Pakistan Army has decided to deploy regular troops along Afghanistan border.

The step is being taken to stop cross-border attacks by Afghan-based militants, as recent months have seen a spate of cross-border attacks into Pakistani areas and on checkposts.DG ISPR Major General Athar Abbas said the troops will be deployed along the border with Dir and Chitral and other areas.Last month, hundreds of Taliban fighters launched pre-dawn raids on paramilitary posts in Chitral district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa after crossing over from their sanctuary in northeastern Afghanistan.At least 28 security personnel were killed in one attack.In another incident, Taliban militants kidnapped more than 30 Pakistani boys who inadvertently strayed across the border. The group of boys, aged between 12 and 18, left the Gharkhi area of Bajaur tribal region during Eid holidays.
