Summary Another monsoon weather system likely to affect upper parts of the country from Thursday.

It will cause scattered rains / thundershowers in upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and adjoining areas during next 2-3 days.Talking to APP, the Director General of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that light to moderate rains are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Peshawar, Hazara divisions and Kashmir from August 4 to 6. However, the weather is likely to remain hot and dry in southern Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan during the period, he said.According to Met Office weekly weather report, this monsoon weather system is likely to affect upper parts of the country from Thursday and likely to become intensified from Saturday causing scattered rains / thundershowers, heavy at times in Kashmir, upper Punjab, central and upper KPK from Saturday to Tuesday.About monitoring of glacier melting, Arif said a report regarding glacier melting has been submitted to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa highlighting the need to establish an automatic weather station in the area.He said there are no chances of heavy rainfall in the province and no glacier outburst is expected so far but continuous glaciers monitoring is needed to avoid loss of lives and infrastructure.The DG said modern instruments are required to monitor discharge flow of water from the glaciers and Met Office cannot import such machinery due to its limited resources so NDMA and KP government are asked to provide assistance in this regard.He said two glacier monitoring stations are operating earlier, however, the Met Office has established another glacier monitoring station at Concodia near Hunza Valley at the height of 5000 meters recently.
