US politicians recognise Pakistans vitality for peace

Summary US Senator John McCain has said that friendly Pak-US ties are vital for victory in Afghanistan.

McCain said that the US had concerns over Pakistan’s ties with Haqqani Network but the matter should be resolved through talks.Senator Richard Lugar said that the US and Pakistan should cooperate on the issues of terrorism because the alliance between the two countries was necessary. US Defence Secretary Robert Gates said that Pakistan was the key country to bring stability in the sub continent. He went on to add that the US aid to Pakistan was not being wasted as Pakistan had helped NATO forces by conducted operation in Swat and Waziristan. Pentagon spokesman Colonel Dave Lapan said that Pakistan’s nuclear assets are safe.Senator Pam Roach, the US Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs member, said that it was difficult to make American people understand why the US was giving billions of dollars aid to Pakistan.
