Summary The number of pending cases at the Peshawar High Court (PHC) reaches 20,000.

According to sources, only nine judges are working in the PHC, including a dysfunctional judge. There are hosts of pending cases from terrorism to missing persons. The reason of the backlog is said to be shortage of judges.According to lawyers, it would take five years to finish the backlog if vacant seats of the judges are not filled as per the constitutional requirement.Legal experts opined that the cases, which had been filed to annoy rivals, should have to be disposed of on priority basis, and that it would also curtail a visible number of pending cases.
