Summary The Supreme Court has directed the authorities concerned to speed up probe in Hajj corruption case.
The FIA said that witnesses were found against former minister for state Shagufta Jamani. FIA Director Hussain Asghar told the court that Shagufta Jamai got the commission from a Saudi national Ibrahim Baghdadi on the named of Pakistani pilgrims. He further told the court that Shagufta’s statement has been recorded in which she denied all the charges.Former Pakistani ambassador in Saudi Arabia Umar Sherzai said in a written statement that former Hajj director Rao Shakeel had offered him 4 million riyals as bribery while Hamid Saeed Kazmi caused loss of 9 million riyals in the process of taking buildings on rent in Saudi Arabia. According to Umar Sherzai’s statement, Hamid Saeed Kazmi, who was in UK for treatment, returned to Pakistan at the earliest and distributed Hajj quota among his travel agents.Giving remakrs in the case, the chief justice directed the FIa to continue its work rejecting all kinds of pressures. The CJP said that people and government’s money was used in free Hajj according to record. Former Hajj director Rao Shakeel said that bills were sent to the people who offered free Hajj. Additional FIA director general Javed Bukhari said that challan was being completed against Hamid Saeed Kazmi and it would be presented soon. The case has been adjourned till April 8.
