Summary Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani said parliament should be strengthened, made functional
LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani has on Tuesday said that the return of former President Pervez Musharraf to national politics was tragic. He said that the parliament should be made strong and functional as a strong parliament would result into supremacy of the constitution, reported Dunya News.
Talking to media, Raza Rabbani strongly reacted to a question regarding Pervez Musharraf’s return to politics. He said that Musharraf violated the constitution, followed the ‘do more’ orders of the Americans and suspended the constitution as well as judiciary.
Rabbani said that a case under Article-6 was already registered against Musharraf. He said that it should be the last day of all politicians in Pakistan when Musharraf returns to politics. He said that all the faults in the system could be corrected through continuation of democracy.
He said that provincial autonomy wasn’t being implemented fully despite the 18th amendment. He said that rolling back of 18th amendment was going to be a decision with very negative repercussions.
Senate Chairman said that strong verdicts were given by the courts during Pakistan People’s Party era. He added that the democratic process was repeatedly derailed in the country. He concluded by saying that the system could not be corrected unless the process was allowed to continue.
