NAB DG issued notice over embezzlement in welfare funds of Punjab police

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court on Monday issued a notice to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Director General (DG) over the application filed regarding the embezzlement in the welfare funds of Punjab police, reported Dunya News.

Sources indicate that funds worth Rs 10 billion were collected during a period of 40 years but the amount was not spent upon the welfare of police officers. High ranking police officers were found involved in spending the funds over the renovation of their own offices and residences.

According to the rules, the funds can be spent over the welfare of policemen occupying ranks from constable from Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). Former Station House Officer (SHO) Sharif Sindhu contacted Lahore High Court to probe into the unrestrained expenditure from the welfare funds.

The applicant’s lawyer, Aftab Bajwa, stated before the court that Punjab Inspector General (IG) was responsible for embezzlement in the funds.
The court has accepted the application for hearing whereas NAB has been ordered to enquire about the embezzlement in the funds of Punjab police.
