Summary Out of 820 cameras installed by the police, only 17 were found operational: Report

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Karachi police on Monday decided to install 1000 miore cameras in different areas of the city as 200 cameras had already been installed in sensitive areas, reported Dunya News.

According to a report submitted by Sindh government to Supreme Court (SC), out of 820 cameras installed by the police, only 17 were found operational. Sindh Inspector General of Police (IG) A.D Khawaja ordered to install 1000 more cameras in the city.

More than 200 cameras were installed in sensitive areas of the city on an emergency basis. More cameras will be placed in two phases; funds had also been released in this regard. 60 cameras will be placed in district East, 30 cameras each will be placed in district Central and West while 80 of them will be placed in South district.

Sindh police controlled 2300 2-megapixel cameras installed by civil government and Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC). Under new directions, 12-megapixel cameras will be placed from now onwards.
