Opposition devising strategies as anti-govt campaign picks pace

Summary Khurshid Shah advises PM to intervene to break deadlock over TORs of Panama Leaks investigation

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Leaders of various Opposition parties on Monday held meetings in order to discuss various aspects of the anti-government campaign revolving mainly around the Terms of References (TORs) catering the investigation of the Panama Leaks issue and to discuss about the appointment of the new members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), reported Dunya News.

Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Syed Khurshid Shah and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan met with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi and various other leaders in the Parliament house and called for a session of all political parties on Wednesday in order to devise a joint strategy to tackle the government.

Shah advised Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif to intervene in the proceedings of the parliamentary committee formed to formulate the TORs of the investigation of the Panama Leaks issue in order to finish the persisting deadlock between the government and the opposition groups.

Opposition leader also met with Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Shujaat Hussain at his residence and invited him to the session of the joint Opposition parties. Shujaat stated that such members need to be introduced in ECP which can ensure free and fair elections and also said that the government’s stubbornness over the Panama Leaks issue could damage the entire issue. Shah said that the names of the ECP members shall be proposed to the government after consulting with all parties of the Opposition.

Meanwhile, PTI leaders held a meeting in Lahore in order to discuss methods to increase the magnitude of their anti-government campaign, routes of the movement and strategy regarding contacting the Opposition parties. It was decided in the meeting that workers convention shall be held on all divisional locations.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan shall address the high court bars in Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi and Quetta. Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rasheed and PML-Q’s Pervaiz Elahi also developed consensus regarding the protest movement via telephone call.
