LAHORE (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Saturday evening returned to Pakistan from the United Kingdom (UK) after 48 days after undergoing an open-heart surgery there. Tight security arrangements were made at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore keeping in view the premier’s arrival back to the country, reported Dunya News.

He met with various personalities including Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana, Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar and others provincial and federal ministers at the airport.

Commenting upon the questions related to Panama Leaks issue raised by senior journalists present at the airport to welcome him back, PM stated that he could only pray for the Opposition and stated that the option to arrange sit-ins would not be a good idea as sit-ins were not the solution of any problem.

He stated that solution regarding the deadlock persisting over the Terms of References (TORs) catering the investigation of the Panama Leaks shall soon be found. PM Nawaz stated that he had been dealing with matters related to premiership from London.

He stated that Abdul Sattar Edhi s services for the nation were paralleled to none, further stating that any award that shall be given to the late philanthropist shall be given after making consensus.

PM then headed to his residence in Jati Umra, Raiwind, in a helicopter that was present at the airport. He shall spend a day with his family in Lahore and will also be leading an important meeting in Raiwind.

Earlier, before leaving for Lahore, PM Nawaz while conversing with media outside his residence in London thanked all the entire nation for his recovery.

PM Nawaz headed to London on April 13, 2016, for medical treatment. His daughter, Maryam Nawaz, shared information regarding his ailment and about his open-heart surgery. Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif and other members of the Sharif family paid visit to the PM in London prior to his surgery.

Opposition parties raised a number of questions regarding the approval of the Federal Budget in the absence of the PM however approval of the budget was given through a video link address in which Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif passed the budget through his electronic signature.

PM Nawaz underwent a successful open-heart surgery at London’s Harley Street Clinic on May 31, 2016. The surgery lasted for five hours after which Maryam Nawaz tweeted that the PM was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

PM Nawaz was transferred to his residence in London on June 7. He indulged in his everyday activities after having bed rest for a few days. He went to shopping, had lunch in a restaurant and also took a walk in London’s Hyde Park.
