ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said there would be no load shedding during Sehar and Iftar timings in Ramazan.

While talking to Radio Pakistan, he said despite severe heat, there is no unannounced loadshedding in the country.

He said electricity shortfall has reduced to 4,000 watts.

Khawaja Asif said the government has closed some plants that produce expensive electricity, which can also be operationalized if a need arises.

He said there are hundreds of feeders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where zero loadshedding is being observed.

The annual fasting month of Ramazan is expected to begin Tuesday in Pakistan.

Most of the Muslim countries in the Middle East and North Africa are already observing Ramazan today (Monday).

During Ramazan, Muslims around the world abstain from eating, drinking, smoking from dawn to dusk. They break the fast with a meal known as Iftar and before dawn they have a second opportunity to eat and drink during Sehar.

Ramazan is sacred to Muslims because tradition says the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) during that month.

Ramazan is followed by the Eid al-Fitr festival.
