Dr Asim case: SHC approves Anees Qaimkhani's protective bail for a week

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday has approved protective bail of Pak Sar Zameen party leader Anees Qaimkhani for a week in Dr Asim case.

A two-member bench comprising of Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh and Justice Karim Khan held hearing of the case during which the court accepted Qaimkhani’s protective bail over surety bond of Rs 1 lac.

The lawyer M. Ilyas Khan insisted to extend the bail for 15 days as his client’s life is in danger. The court directed Anees Qaimkhani to contact local court for further proceeding.

Pak Sar Zameen party leader has also got his affidavit in this regard.

Earlier, Anti-terrorism court (ATC) issued non-bailable arrest warrant of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) disenchanted member Anees Qaimkhani in former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain’s case.

MQM’s mayoral candidate Waseem Akhtar, Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Abdul Qadir Patel and Qaimkhani were declared ‘fugitives’ in terror facilitation case against Dr Asim Hussain.

Investigation officer requested the court to register a new case in light of the fresh JIT report. The report nominates eight criminals including Hammad Siddique, Abdul Rehman Bhola and Umer.

A close aide to ex-president Asif Ali Zardari, Dr Asim Hussain has been accused of money laundering and unfair distribution of natural gas quotas as the federal petroleum minister.

He is facing a case in anti-terrorism court for allegedly providing safe havens to target killers and militants in his hospital.
