Summary Power of extension is in hands of COAS only in Martial Law, in democracy PM has power: JUI Chief

HYDERABAD (Dunya News) – Jamiat Ulema Islam - Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman said on Saturday that the impression is being made that the decision of army chief’s service tenure is in his own hands. He was talking to media is Hyderabad where he was meeting Azam Jahangiri to offer his condolence on the death of his father, reported Dunya News.

According to the details, Rehman said that the power of extension in service period is in hands of army chief only in Martial Law. He also said that provinces have reservations over National Action Plan (NAP) although public claim that NAP has brought peace. He said that sending all the cases to military courts gives the impression that civil institutions have failed, which is not right.

Answering a question, Fazl-ur-Rehman criticized the members of the Punjab Assembly upon the recently passed Women Protection Bill. While taunting the members of the Punjab Assembly, Fazl-ur-Rehman stated that Islam addresses husband and wife as the protector of each other’s honour but such a law will disturb the basic fabric of a Muslim household.

“Shahbaz Sharif is ‘Khadim-e-Aala’ inside his home that makes him pass a bill giving women power over their husbands. If a woman gets treated badly, she should go to family or tribal elders and if she doesn’t get justice then she can go to the courts because this is our culture”, said Fazal-ur-Rehman.

The JUI-F leader stated that during the Musharraf tenure, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) opposed a similar bill but now they themselves have become the followers of the European culture. He further added that such a law seems like brought by Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO)
