Summary The ECP has requested to extend deadline till October 26.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, seeking 30-day extension in holding of local government elections in Sindh and Punjab, Dunya News reported.
The ECP in its request stated that the Sindh government wants to change election rules and due to this printing of nomination papers cannot take place.
It further told the apex court that the Punjab government has partially or impartially changed several clauses of LB election rules through an ordinance. Floods in both provinces have also affected preparations for the electoral process as administrative officers are busy supervising relief activities in the affected areas..
The ECP said that polling cannot be held in private building under the law.
It may be mentioned here that the Supreme Court had ordered the ECP on March 18 to announce the LG election schedule for the two provinces by July 28.
