Inquiry commission summons PTI lawyers, journalists for cross-examination

Summary The additional ballots printed in 1993 and 2013 were relatively lower, says ex-secretary ECP

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The inquiry commission has summoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyers and journalists for cross-examination in the next hearing.

Chief Justice (CJ) Nasirul Mulk chaired the meeting of the commission. PTI counsel Abdul Hafeez Pirzada said that the opposition party wants to cross-examine journalists. He urged the judge to summon both the parties on June 1. He said that the party would file a written reply to the allegations leveled by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) regarding rigging in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Monday.

While answering the questions of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawyer, former secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan said that as many as 16 parties including PTI had recommended appointment of returning officers (ROs) from judiciary in the General Elections 2013.

He was not aware of the procedure followed for printing of ballots by the ROs, he added. Ex-secretary ECP asked whether any incident about getting any political party’s agent out of the polling station was reported by the media or not. Media was performing its duties however no such reports surfaced, the CJ replied.

Ahmed also said that from 1970 to 2013, additional ballots were printed against the number of registered voters however, the ratio was relatively lower in 1993 and 2013.
