Summary The committee also approved subsidy of Rs 5 per kg on sugar
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Economic Coordination Committee on Thursday approved a summary for uniform electricity prices. After the approval, the customers consuming more than 300 units of electricity will be charged as per increased tariff. The committee also approved a subsidy of Rs 5 per kilogram on sugar.
According to details, the ECC meeting was presided over by Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. The ECC approved increased tariff for consumers of more than 300 units as per recommendation of the Ministry of Water and Power. However, units up to 300 and agriculture users will continue to enjoy subsidy.
In another summary, it was decided that the reduction in fuel prices will only benefit consumers using over 301 units of electricity and not the ones consuming fewer than 300 units of electricity.
It was also decided in the session that the current electricity prices including surcharges and taxes will remain same as announced by NEPRA so that the electricity prices could be kept as per current average.
The committee also approved recommendation to empower provinces for alternative electricity projects while allowing them to use federal sovereign guarantee.
