Summary If load shedding continues like this, people may end govt prematurely, says PPP Punjab president
LAHORE: (Daily Dunya) – President Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo has on Tuesday said that the government’s promise to end load shedding by 2018 is an attempt to fool the people as government’s tenure would have been over by then. He said that if the load shedding continues in the same fashion, people may force the government to go home prematurely, reported Daily Dunya.
Talking to media, Manzoor Wattoo said that the government is trying to calm down the people by adding a meager 100 mega watts to the national grid. He said that it was a question mark on government’s ability to curb this crisis. “They have added 100 MW in last two years. What trick they have saved up their sleeve to add 6000 MW within next three years?” questioned Wattoo.
PPP leader said that the government will soon be under pressure due to the load shedding. “People remember the promises made by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif before the elctions”, he said. “I don’t want Shahbaz Sharif to change his name, as promised by him, but at least apologize to the people. CM is now paying for his acting”, he added. Wattoo said that Shahbaz Sharif used to lead rallies against the federal government over load shedding issue when the PPP was in power.
Criticizing the Nandipur Power Project, PPP stalwart said that the Nandipur Power Project has exposed Punjab government’s so-called ‘good governance’. This project has proved to be a white elephant, he said.
Manzoor Wattoo said that PPP added 3400 MW in the national grid during its tenure which allowed people some breathing space but Punjab’s residents are facing up to 8 hours of load shedding nowadays in cities and up to 10 hours of load shedding in rural areas.
