PM seeks 30-day extension in Saulat Mirza's execution date

Summary Saulat Mirza is scheduled to be hanged on April 1.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday forwarded a summary to President Mamnoon Hussain, seeking extension in death row convict Saulat Mirza’s execution date by another 30 days, Dunya News reported.

Earlier, in a fresh death warrant against the condemned prisoner, an anti-terrorism court in Karachi had ordered Machh Jail authorities to execute him at 5:00am on April 1.

Mirza was sentenced to death in a case pertaining to killing of managing director of then named Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Shahid Hamid, his driver and guard in 1997.

In a video message from death cell on April 18, Saulat Mirza leveled serious allegations against the leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). He alleged that he killed former KESC Director Shahid Hamid on the directives of Altaf Hussain.

Now, the authorities are seeking extension in his execution date to further investigate the matter.
