LAHORE (Web Desk) – While hearing a petition challenging non-party local government elections in cantonment areas, the Lahore High Court (LHC) judge Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Thursday asked that how the government would be formed if there is no political party in the country, Dunya News reported.
During case proceedings, lawyer of the plaintiff argued that holding local government elections in cantonment boards on non-party basis is violation of the Supreme Court order.
On this, the Deputy Attorney General remarked that the apex court did not issue a clear order in its verdict.
Justice Syed Masnoor Ali Shah remarked that how government would be formed if there is no political party in the country. The court is not suspending election schedule of cantonment boards due to SC order.
Holding election on non-party basis is violation of Article 140 (A) and apparently against the democratic values, he added.
Meanwhile, the court directed the Attorney General to present arguments on constitutional points on April 3.
