LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab Assembly on Friday has passed at least 11 Amendments in the rules including laws regarding premature marriages of girls. The opposition demonstrated a walk-out of the assembly as the government did not consult them over the Amendments.

According to the details, the Punjab Assembly passed as many as five Bills that amounted to women rights in Pakistan. These included increased protection through the law in matters of family courts, premature marriages, muslim family laws, property distribution and others. The fines and punishments in cases of premature marriages of girls have been increased. The parents and the witnesses will also be punished now.

The opposition members in the assembly said that the government decided these Amendments on its own and did not consult the opposition. The government side said that the opposition should encourage such acts instead of creating hurdles in processes that lead to provincial betterment.

The other six laws that were amended include Criminal Prosecution Service, Punjab Arms, laws regarding wall-chalking and sound systems along with others.
